It’s Time For Allergens in Your Air to “Bite The Dust!”

Woman relaxing on a couch, enjoying clean air and comfort, reflecting the importance of HVAC services for indoor air quality.

Spring is a special time of year. The winter chill is slowly thawing, and there's a little something magical in the air...oh, wait. That's right- it's dust, pollen, and other allergens that are in the air this time of year. Yuck! While you may not be able to avoid allergens altogether this spring, you should at least be able to take refuge from them in your own home, shouldn't you?

Unfortunately, if you have poor indoor air quality, you may not even be safe from dust and pollen in your own house. The good news is that Baker Heating & Cooling is here to help you understand how to improve your air quality so you can breathe easy all season long!

Understand The Importance of Air Quality

The first step to improving your air quality is understanding what that means, and why it’s important. To have good air quality is to have air that is free from contaminants like dust, pollen, and mold. It is important to consider (and, if need be, improve) your indoor air quality because poor air quality is known to aggravate conditions like asthma and allergies, as well as make maintaining a clean house nearly impossible.

healthissuesIf you’re not paying attention to the quality of the air you’re breathing, you may start to notice some of the following health issues:

  • Stuffy or runny nose.
  • Scratchy throat.
  • Itchy, irritated eyes.
  • Skin is red, itchy, and irritated.

Get Your Air Filter Changed

airfilterNow that you understand why you need good air quality, you can take the first practical step to do something about it- regularly changing or cleaning your air filter.

The filter in your HVAC unit is your shield against dust and pollen that enters your home from the outside and get cycled into your HVAC system. The filter traps these things before they can make their way to vents all over your house.

If you use disposable air filters, you should be changing the filter every 30-90 days (or about once a month in the spring). Some HVAC units use eco-friendly washable filters. Again, these should be removed and cleaned about once a month during the spring to keep your air clean.

Take a Breath of Clean Air!

breatheeasyAnother thing you can do to improve the quality of the air you breathe is to clean your air vents every couple of months and clean your house regularly to get rid of any dust that does settle.

If you do this, in as little as a month, you'll begin to see improvements in your respiratory health, your skin, and even the smell of the air in your home.

If you're ready to clean up the air in your home and tell dust and pollen to go "bite the dust," then call Barker Heating & Cooling to speak with an air quality expert about what you can do to improve your indoor air quality!
